What is Penetrant Testing?

Penetrant testing is an NTD method used to detect cracks, pores and other discontinuities on the surface of materials. It is especially effective for determining surface defects in metal, ceramic and composite materials.

Stages of Penetrant Testing:

Cleaning: The surface to be tested is cleaned of dirt, oil and other residues.
Penetrant Application: A special liquid (penetrant) that can penetrate surface defects is applied to the surface.
Waiting Time: A certain period of time is waited for the penetrant to penetrate surface defects.
Cleaning: Excess penetrant on the surface is cleaned.
Developer Application: A developer is applied to the surface that pulls the penetrant out of the surface defects and makes it visible.
Inspection: The surface is examined under ultraviolet (UV) light or normal light. Surface defects become visible with the accumulation of penetrant.
